Engagement
Large and small businesses alike understand that it’s a constant battle and competition to keep the business rankings high organically on the first page of Google.co.uk. Businesses must also compete with each other based on “engagement metrics”- such how long can they hold shoppers’ interest (dwell time)?
Arguably, at any time in history, our attention spans have become shorter when purchasing goods or looking for a company. That’s because as consumers we are spoilt for choice; we no longer have to search through catalogue businesses to find a local telephone number. We now have a mass of companies all competing for our business on social media and on Google’s results.
This is good and bad for businesses, as it keeps businesses on their toes and requires them to offer excellent customer service.
When you talk to any good marketing agency or web design company, they will tell you it’s all about keeping the shopper engaged.
Keeping the shopper engaged
Therefore in 2025 web designers globally will be focused on building and designing more engaging, animated and websites able to grab and retain your interest.
We’ve all seen websites’ header sections with auto-loading videos, which give a sense of the business its staff working for the business. .
This is sometimes supplemented with drone footage showing the business premises, or its services or products it offers to the market.
So, there you have it, its a constant battle to keep shoppers on your website, lower the bounce rate, and increase the dwell time. So web designers, cant make boring, stayle websites anymore, you need come up with an intresting design, in order to retain a shoppers interest, to do this the web design must stand out from the crowd.
Domino’s pizza have nailed it
Domino’s website is exciting and uses animation to keep the shoppers intrerst. For example on the App, and online, Domino’s Pizza often shows a robot that automatically updates you on the progress of your pizza being baked at the local Domino’s Pizza restaurant.
This is brilliant because it is interactive, it retains interest, and informs the customer on the progress of how their food is being prepared, whether it is baking stage, ready for collection, or out for delivery, for example.
So we can begin to see a lot more interactive, engaging, and fun.
Dynamic and responsive layouts
Many web designers will be discussing dynamic page layouts more we think during 2025. That’s the layout of a page which can change and rearrange themselves based on shoppers’ interactions with the website.
So, let’s say that you are particularly interested in a brand of running trainers. Rather than being presented with 300 pairs of randomly ordered trainers, spread across say 7 pages, if instead you have shown a preference for three particular brands, then the page can rearrange themselves on the page to entice the customer to buy the product.
This includes the user experience (U.X) and improves the click-through rate of each particular product.
Powering this dynamic layout are often complex artificial intelligence (A.I) based algorithms working away in the background, tailoring the results to what the algorithm thinks the customer will want to see next, so in this example arranging the trainers in terms of what the customer may well be interested in buying.
Virtual reality will become our reality
Virtual reality and augmented reality, AR for short is going to become something of a phenomenon. With millions of people owning these headsets in the future.
Imagine, for example, sitting in your living room and watching major sporting events, like the boxing match between Tyson Fury and Jake Paul on NetFlix.
Imagine if there were advertisements that popped out on all the television within your living room when and lets say you were then looking at a giant soda bottle or something to that effect circulating in your living room- this is what we think is the future of advertising and marketing.
This is basically what becomes possible with virtual reality and augmented reality.
Keeping things simple
Although we are entering a time where we will see artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality used a lot in our everyday lives, we will also think that a lot businesses will return to minimalism design as well.
So, for example, we think a lot of websites use a lot of empty spaces, clutter-free design, and text in brief paragraphs.
Because people’s attention spans are shorter, the skill in terms, of designing un-cluttered websites will become an art form.
Clutter-free design is becoming popular again, offering a good, elegant-looking website.
Chat bots
This might not happen in 2025, but we think it will happen in the future. Just as you walk into a traditional shop and a shop assistant greets you, we believe this is will become possible online through an automated sales assistant.
This representative will be like a real-life sales assistant, answering any questions you have about the product or service.
Let’s give you an example of what we mean. When you are shopping for an electrical item, customers often have many questions before they buy, let’s say, a rather expensive television.
Perhaps the customer can’t find the answer through the product description. So they might turn to the AI-powered chatbot to ask a questions about that particular product. We think artificial intelligence has become so good that it will understand the question, and provide an answer the same way a real customer service representative would.
